Savute

If there is a place with a more dramatic story, it is Savute. The Savute River has become world renowned for its mysterious disappearances that stretch over decades and sometimes to a Century. Whatever turn the Savute River takes, the dramatic change in Savute, is like night and day. The River has just returned transforming Savute yet again to a Paradise indeed.

The channel has a fascinating history of flooding and drying up independently of rainy season and floods elsewhere. In addition it is a suitable place that no one would like to miss in a holiday trip. It is popularly known for its unique experience of abundance in wildlife species and beautiful landscape covered with mash of grass. The Savuti Marsh is an expanse of grasslands in the western region of Chobe National Park. In Botswana’s BaYei dialect, the word Savute means “unclear,” which is thought to be a reference to the area’s unpredictable water supply, the Savuti Channel. During the rainy season, the Savuti plains are lush and green. The Savuti area is mainly characterised by Camelthorn (Acacia erioloba) sandveld, Silver Terminalia (Terminalia sericea) sandveld, scrub savanna, and mopane veld. Savuti's almost desert-like landscape with a scorching sun, loose, hot sand, animals escaping the heat by clumping together in the limited available shade, and elephants lining up to get to the water supply, offer a wildlife experience you won't easily forget.Sightings include; incredible sightings for cats such as lions and leopards have been a memorable experience since the place existed.  Old bull elephants are notable and permanently residing in the area flocking to the waterholes which sustain the survival of vast of wildlife during the dry season.

Lying within the protected Chobe region, Savute is distinguished thanks to the Savute Channel, which periodically flows from the Linyanti, fanning out to the Savute Marshland.  The enigmatic nature of the flowing Channel and flooded marshland remain a mystery.  These ancient water systems flow and dry independently of the impact of water levels and rainfall in the region.  Underground tectonic plate movements may be the answer, but experts have yet to determine this is the case.  No matter the scenario, the Savute region will thrill lovers of wildlife, birds and the African safari experience. The Savute pride of lion has earned a fearsome reputation for their unparalleled skill in hunting elephant.  Predator sightings in general are frequent: resident Leopard, enigmatic and energetic African Wild Dog, endearing and comical Bat-eared Fox, Spotted Hyena, Jackal and even Cheetah may be seen.
